BMW have released their specifications and pricing for the 2017 4 Series range which will be available in showrooms from June this year.

This mid-life update, or LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) in BMW terminology, brings improved styling and enhanced equipment levels.

“The BMW 4 Series range brilliantly combines sportiness and sophistication,” said BMW Group Australia CEO, Marc Werner.

“This latest update adds further visual and technological distinction to go with its strong range of efficient, powerful engines.”

Interestingly, this update has seen the 420d disappear from the line-up, it’s only petrol power for the updated 4 Series.

To begin with the entire BMW 4 Series range will now sport new Bi-LED headlights with LED front fog lights fitted as standard, with the 440i also having Adaptive LED headlight functionality as standard. Coming from behind there are new L-shaped LED tail lights and a revised reflector design.

A revised front apron now enhances the new lighting signature on the Luxury Line, which is now also standard on the 420i, giving the 4 Series a more distinctive wider and lower stance. There is also a new rear bumper design and 19-inch light alloy road wheels.

The M Sport package brings ‘double spoke’ 19-inch light alloy wheels.

Rounding out the exterior changes is the option of two new metallic paints, Sunset Orange metallic and Snapper Rocks Blue, or if you seek even more personalisation Frozen Silver and Aventurine Red sourced from the flagship 7 Series range are now available.

Moving to the inside of the new BMW 4 Series sees a host of changes. The driver will now experience the enhanced sports steering wheel covered in ‘Nora’ leather. The instrument panel has double stitching or in the 440i variant a Walknappa leather instrument finish. There are also improvements to the wiper and indicator stalks with improved movement and high beam assist and auto rain-sensing wipers now staying depressed when in use.

The centre console has contrasting chrome highlights against a high-gloss black finish.

Looking at technology sees the latest BMW navigation system professional as standard on the 4 Series range which also incorporates the latest iDrive6 functionality.

Midnight Blue, Cognac and Ivory White are the three new optional Dakota leather upholstery finishes available. Carbon Aluminium, Fine-wood ‘Fineline’ Light and High-Gloss Black with Pearl Chrome accents are also available as well.

A new suspension layout featuring stiffer springs and improved damper response for the standard Adaptive M Suspension system has been used in the new BMW 4 Series range. This enables a sportier handling balance without sacrificing ride comfort in either of the comfort or sport settings.

Straight line stability has been improved as well as a reduction in corner roll. To add to this the electrically-assisted power steering system has also been fine-tuned. Optional across the range now is Variable Sport Steering.

The engines are carried over with the BMW 420i and 430i ranges are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, producing 135kW/270Nm and 185kW/350Nm, respectively.

The BMW 440i range gets a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder powered engine delivering 240kW/450Nm to the rear wheels.
