Hyundai have announced specifications and pricing information for the 2017 i30.
The Korean brand has enjoyed sales success with the outgoing model, this is largely due to the regularly advertised $19,990 drive away deal.
The 2017 Hyundai i30 is well kitted out and pricing is competitive, however it is unlikely to enjoy the same deal in the short to medium term.
The new line-up starts with a base manual i30 Active that will set buyers back $20,950 plus on-road costs.
Hyundai claims equipment levels have increased by approximately $2000. The i30 Active will include a fully integrated satellite navigation system with 8” touch screen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and DAB+ digital radio.
The Active also gets 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, hill-start assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Active is available with two engines, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit that produces 120kW and 203Nm. This represents 13kW more power and 28Nm more torque than the 1.8-litre MPi engine it replaces. There is also a 1.6-litre turbo diesel unit that outputs 100kW and 280Nm. Pairing this engine with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission lifts the torque figure to 300Nm.
Moving up to the Elite specification adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, keyless entry with push button start and a clever wireless charging pad for smartphones.
The new i30 has a long list of standard safety features and has achieved a maximum 5-star ANCAP safety rating. This will be complimented by an optional SmartSense safety package, which will be available on the i30 Active by the end of 2017.
With a variety of engines and transmission options across six model designations, it would appear there is a model for everyone.
What will be most interesting is whether or not the new i30 can maintain its market share. It does represent value for money, there is more standard equipment with no significant change in the list price, but, and it’s a big but, Hyundai have trained buyers to expect the i30 for under 20k with an automatic transmission. It is unclear if the numbers will stay strong when the old stock is cleared.

There are some options that allow buyers to bring some individuality to their i30. Metallic paint is a $495 option on all model grades. 1.6 CRDi Elite and Premium variants can be optioned with a beige interior for $295. For $2000 SR and Elite models can enjoy some sunshine with a panoramic sunroof.
The 2017 Hyundai i30 will go on sale in Australia later this month.
