Volkswagen have announced pricing and upgrades for its four-cylinder Amarok range.

The exterior and interior upgrades bring the four cylinder Amaroks into line with the already released V6 range.

Interestingly, the entry-level TDI340 powertrain has been cut from the line-up. The market is getting a taste for upmarket utes and this decision is most likely reflective of that trend.

The exterior gains minor revisions to the front bumper design. All 4x4 Amarok models gain a closed-type underbody guard for tackling tough conditions. For those who encounter the tough stuff, the guard improves ground clearance by up to 34mm.

Pleasingly, the updated Amarok range has improved safety credentials. Volkswagen’s Multi-Collision Braking system is included. 4x4 models gain a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors (not available on cab chassis models), this is an optional extra on 4x2 models.

Safety and convenience combine in the updated infotainment system. The Composition Media unit is equipped with App-Connect, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Core Plus 4x4 model is now the high point in the four-cylinder range, replacing the Highline specification, which has been promoted to V6. It receives the most number of updates, that includes, carpet floor covering, an upgraded cloth seat trim, front parking sensors, additional 12-volt sockets, body coloured mirrors and door handles, rear grab handles and interior lights and the post-collision braking system.

Power output remains unchanged, the TDI400 produces 132kW of power and 400Nm of torque while the TDI420 version boasts 132kW and 420Nm. TDI420 is only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The upgraded four-cylinder Amarok range is on-sale now and Car Conversation will be reviewing the Amarok soon.
