BMW Australia has announced specifications and pricing for two additional X2 variants, the sDrive18i and xDrive20d, which takes the local range to three models.
 
Due in the middle of 2018, these new additions join the already available sDrive20i.
 
The new entry-level sDrive18i will open the range at $49,990 plus on-roads. Power will come from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder 103kW/220Nm turbocharged petrol engine borrowed from the Mini. Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission. From a standstill, it can hit 100km/h in 9.6 seconds.
 
Equipment highlights include 18-inch light alloy wheels, LED headlights with cornering lights, powered tailgate, sensatec (faux leather) upholstery, sport leather steering wheel, rear view camera, DAB digital radio and satellite navigation.
 
Driving Assistant is also standard which brings speed limit info, lane departure warning and forward collision warning.
 
The range-topping xDrive20d - lone all-wheel drive variant gets power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that develops 140kW and 400Nm. It gets a traditional eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. With the diesel engine, it can reach 100km/h in a far more respectable 7.7 seconds.
 
The xDrive20d shares specification with the sDrive20i launch variant, standard kit includes M Sport X package (M Sport package is a no-cost option), 19-inch M light alloy wheels, Alcantara Anthracite cloth upholstery with yellow contrast stitching, sports seats for driver and front passenger, BMW Individual Anthracite headliner and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line.
 
The flagship diesel also gets M Sport suspension, M leather steering wheel, automatic air-conditioning, interior lights package and an interior rear-view mirror with anti-dazzle function.
