The covers have come off the 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder, the topless Italian promises to deliver supercar thrills and performance with the roof open or closed.

The Huracan Performante Spyder uses the same naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V8 engine from the coupe delivering 470kW of power and 600Nm of torque. Power is sent to a permanent all-wheel system via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Lamborghini claims a 0 - 100 km/h sprint time of 3.1 seconds which is only 0.2 seconds slower than the coupe and a top speed of 325 km/h.

In Spyder form, the Huracan Performante carries an additional 125kg over the coupe, bringing the total dry weight to 1507kg.

The Huracan Performante Spyder will also feature Lamborghini’s patented active aerodynamics system, Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA). The system uses electronic wizardry to determine whether high down force or low drag is required to ensure the best aerodynamic set-up in every driving condition.

Moving to the party piece roof, it opens in just 17 seconds up to a driving speed of 50km/h. When retracted, it’s stored in a way to protect the Performante Spyder’s perfect centre of gravity.

Additional features include an enhanced suspension system, recalibrated stability control and Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS). There is also a driver-mode system comprising STRADA, SPORT and CORSA which alter the car’s dynamic systems.

Australian specifications and pricing are still to be confirmed, however, buyers can expect a starting price somewhere between $550,000 - $600,000 before on-road costs.
