The 2018 Volkswagen Amarok V6 Dark Label is a confirmed starter for Australia, pricing is yet to be announced, however, the special edition ute will be available from April.

Only 500 units will be available nationally, the Dark Label is positioned between the Highline and the Ultimate variants.

The Dark Label will feature Vienna leather trim with heated front seats, matte black sports bar and side steps, wheel arch flares in black, new 18-inch anthracite alloy wheels and an all-black interior, including headlining and pillar trims.

The Amarok V6 Dark Label will share the 165kW/550Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine (180kW on overboost) found in other Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi products.

Power is sent to a permanent 4x4 system through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Volkswagen Australia's Director of Commercial Vehicles Carlos Santos hinted more special edition Amarok variants could follow the V6 Dark Label, "We've heard about this Mercedes-Benz collaboration with Nissan," he said. "Don't worry - the Amarok is not about to be left behind by the X-Class."

It’s not the first time Santos has taken a swing at the X-Class, in July last year he dropped this pearler when announcing the introduction of the Amarok V6 Sportline, "Amarok V6's technology derives wholly from within the Volkswagen Group. We have not had to look to Japan for a donor vehicle.”

We love an executive who is willing to get into a scrap.

Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles division of utes, vans and people movers achieved a record 15,688 sales last year – an increase of more than 14 per cent on 2016.
