Local specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 Volkswagen Polo GTI, the hot-hatch is due to arrive in August with a starting price of $30,990 plus on-road costs.
 
Dubbed the Polo 6 GTI, power will come from a 2.0-litre turbo four producing 147kW and 320Nm making it as powerful as the Mark V Golf with 40Nm more torque.
 
Purists should be warned, there’s no manual option, all Polo GTIs will come standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
 
It’s a well-equipped car, standard kit includes 17-inch alloys, sport suspension, City Emergency Brake (City EB) with pedestrian monitoring, power folding door mirrors, keyless entry and start, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers and an electronic differential lock.
 
On the inside, buyers get the very cool Clark tartan trim, leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles, 8.0-inch infotainment system, dual zone climate control and a rear view camera.
 
Volkswagen will offer the Polo GTI with three option packs – Driver Assistance, Sound & Vision and Luxury.
 
Driver Assistance - $1400: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), blind spot monitor with rear traffic alert, park assist and proactive occupant protection system.
 
Sound & Vision - $1900: Active info display, Discover Media navigation system, Media Control and Beats 300W premium audio system.
 
Luxury - $3900: Art Velour microfleece upholstery, heated front seats, LED headlights with LED daytime driving lights, 18" Brescia alloy wheels, panoramic electric glass sunroof, dark tinted rear side and rear window glass.
 
Metallic or pearl effect paint adds an additional $500.
