BMW has revealed the full 2019 Z4 range which is set to be launched at next month’s Paris motor show.

Joining the flagship M40i will be the sDrive20i and sDrive30i. Both variants will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 145kW/320Nm and 190kW/400Nm respectively.

There is no manual transmission option to speak of, all new Z4 models will send drive to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic.

The Bavarian marque happily talks up the car’s body rigidity and the newly designed double-joint spring strut axle at the front and a five-link rear axle that is making its debut in a BMW roadster.

Dimensionally, the Z4 has grown in length by 85mm to 4324mm, is 74mm wider (now 1864mm) and 13mm taller (1304 mm). While the wheelbase has been shortened by 26mm to 2470mm in a bid to sharpen the car’s agility.

The fabric soft-top comes in black as standard or anthracite with silver effect as an option. It is electrically operated and can be opened or closed in 10 seconds at up to 50km/h.

Boot capacity is 281 litres whether the soft-top is open or closed – an increase of more than 50 per cent compared to the outgoing model.

A new-look, mesh-design kidney grille is standard across the range, along with a vertical LED headlight arrangement.

On the inside, the layout is similar to the upcoming 8 Series coupe with a digital instrument cluster, large centre infotainment screen, head-up display and Vernasca leather trim.

The Z4 will be equipped with BMW Operating System 7.0 which will feature the brand’s new Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control system from March 2019.

At this stage, collision warning, pedestrian warning with city braking function and lane departure warning will be standard, while active cruise control, rear collision prevention and rear cross-traffic alert will be on the options list.

Local specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the Z4’s Australian launch in 2019. Stay tuned.
