The 2019 Ford Focus has been revealed this week, the new small car will come from Ford’s German plant and reach Australian showrooms late in 2018.

Ford released details of all three body styles which will be built on the new C2 global platform. Australian bound Focus models will offer two new-generation three-cylinder powerplants including a brand-new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine, and a new eight-speed torque-convertor automatic transmission to deliver improvements in efficiency and drivability.

A host of advanced safety technology will also feature on the all-new Ford Focus which includes autonomous emergency braking with night-time pedestrian and cyclist detection and a rear wide-view camera as standard across the range.

Other optional safety kit includes adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, evasive steering assist and blind spot information system with cross traffic alert.

Ford Australia needs the new Focus to fire, at present the brand’s local sales largely consist of Ranger models, Ford’s SUVs and small cars have struggled to lay a glove on offerings from Japan and Korea. For it to have any chance of success, pricing needs to be sharp. Waving the ‘made in Germany’ flag is unlikely to sway young buyers.

Full specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the official Australian launch later in the year. Watch this space!
