Specifications and pricing for the 2019 Ford Mustang EcoBoost have been confirmed, the four-cylinder pony car joins the GT variant in showrooms priced from $49,990 plus on-road costs.

Under the bonnet of the Mustang EcoBoost sits a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which develops 224kW of power and 441Nm of torque. It’s mated with an upgraded six-speed manual or new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Available in both convertible and fastback body styles, the Mustang EcoBoost features a lower, remodelled bonnet and grille for a meaner, leaner look, and a new front splitter for improved handling and improved fuel economy.

There are also all-LED front lights and revised LED taillamps with a new bumper, fascia and optional performance spoiler, black 19-inch alloy wheels featuring Brembo brake callipers fill the wheel arches and a black rear diffuser.

Internal upgrades include improved materials for the dash and console coverings, as well as revised spun aluminium look dash appliqué. There is also a new 12-speaker 1000W B&O Play audio system with a 10-channel amplifier.

Tech upgrades include a 12.4-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster which is customisable with Normal, Sport and Track modes as well as colour and gauge layout. The all-new Mustang MyMode also includes memory function to remember favourite drive settings, including steering and exhaust preferences.

Taking customisability one step further is the all-new active valve exhaust system which is now standard on every new Mustang. It allows four modes - Normal, Quiet, Track and Sport – to tailor the exhaust note for any occasion.

Also new are the shock absorbers and cross-axis join in the rear suspension for better ride control and increased lateral stiffness respectively. MagneRide damper technology is also an option.

Standard safety kit includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and rear-view camera. There are also auto-levelling headlights and automatic high beam. It should be noted, ANCAP has awarded the Mustang a disappointing three-star safety score.

Ford’s Sync3 infotainment platform is standard and displayed on an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
