SUV specialist Haval has launched a new entry-level model, the H2 MT priced from $19,990 drive-away.

Powering the Haval H2 MT will be the familiar 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine offering 110kW of power and 210Nm of torque. It is mated with a six-speed manual transmission that sends drive to the front wheels.

Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is rated at 8.5L/100km which is 0.8 litres less than the auto-equipped models.

Standard inclusions on the H2 MT extend to Bluetooth, cruise control, reverse parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic park brake, tyre pressuring monitoring as well as front, side and curtain airbags.

Last year, independent crash tester ANCAP awarded the H2 a five-star safety rating, however, the absence of autonomous emergency braking means it wouldn’t score as well if it was assessed again.

Bill Soo, Haval’s local marketing manager, commented: “Australian’s work hard to make ends meet and for many, the decision about a new car often means making difficult compromises – either in their children’s education, renovations or retirement savings.”

“The launch of the H2MT is way of making safe, high quality SUVs more accessible to more Australians.”

Until the end of 2018, all Haval models are backed by a seven year, unlimited kilometre warranty.

2019 Haval H2 pricing (drive-away):

H2 MT (manual) - $19,990
H2 Premium (auto) - $22,990
H2 LUX (auto) - $26,990
