A new top-of-the-range Maserati SUV has been revealed, the Levante Trofeo, according to the Italian luxury marque this new addition to the Levante line-up is one of its most potent production models ever.

The headline act is the Ferrari made 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine that develops 440kW of power and 730Nm of torque.

All that power is put down through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission that sends drive to the same Q4 all-wheel drive system used in the rest of the Levante range.

Maserati says the Levante Trofeo can sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed faster than 300km/h, not too shabby.

To keep things grippy, larger tyres have been fitted to the 22-inch forged aluminium wheels, while the front and rear suspension has been reworked to deliver stability and comfort when the needle rises. Despite the raft of changes, the Trofeo maintains a 50:50 weight distribution.

A new Corsa driving mode with launch control has been added to drive mode selector. Selecting the Corsa mode improves engine response, opens exhaust valves in acceleration, provides faster gear shifting, lowers the air suspension level and adjusts the Skyhook damper settings.

Exterior changes that differentiate the Levante Trofeo from the rest of the range include a new front fascia, side air intakes, Saetta Trofeo logos on the c-pillars, carbon fibre side bezel blades and a carbon fibre splitter. There’s also the option of polished and matte finishes for the 22-inch wheels.

Down the back, there’s a new rear bumper, a body-coloured lower extractor and oval quad exhaust tips.

On the inside, emotional design elements are everywhere, premium Pieno Fiore leather trim with contrast stitching, Trofeo logo embroidered headrests, matte carbon fibre trim, bespoke instrument cluster graphics, Maserati clock and floor mats with metal Trofeo badges are all included.

To kick it up a notch, a 1,280-watt, 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound system is also standard.

According to Maserati’s press release, the production of the Levante Trofeo starts this summer at the refurbished Maserati plant in Mirafiori (Turin), Italy. The fastest Levante in Maserati history is initially intended for overseas export markets, starting with the U.S. and Canada, and has yet to be confirmed for the Australian and New Zealand markets. Stay tuned!
