Specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A250 4Matic, the range-topping hatch will arrive in November priced from $49,500 plus on-road costs.

Powering the A250 4Matic is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine developing 165kW of power and 350Nm of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Performance wise, Mercedes-Benz claims the car can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds while fuel consumption on the combined cycle comes in at 6.6L/100km.

The on-demand 4Matic all-wheel drive system can send up to 50 per cent of the available torque to the rear, however, in the majority of driving situations, the car will be sending 100 per cent of the drive to the front axle.

Interestingly, the A250 4Matic uses a four-link rear suspension instead of the torsion beam set-up in the entry-level A-Class models.

As with the A200, the flagship features 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with adaptive high beam assist, MBUX multimedia system with widescreen cockpit (2 x 10.25-inch digital screens), satellite navigation, push-button start and wireless charging.

Standard safety kit includes autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, rear-view camera and nine airbags.

Interested buyers should note, this particular A250 4Matic is classified as a limited edition and will be available from November. The range will be realigned when the base model A180 arrives in 2019. Specs and pricing for the A180 will be announced before the end of 2018.
