Local specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV range which now starts at $99,900 plus on-road costs.
Dimensionally, the wheelbase has been stretched by 80mm to 2995mm, meaning legroom in the second row has increased by 69mm to 1045mm. Headroom has also grown by 33mm.
All GLE variants come standard with Multibeam LED headlights with adaptive high beam, aluminium roof rails and aluminium-look illuminated running boards, a powered tailgate, park assistant, puddle lamps and 20-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the new MBUX multimedia interface including two 12.3-inch digital screens and ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice recognition is included, as is ‘Mercedes me Connect’ services, a head-up display, faux leather upholstery, multifunction sports steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather, heated front seats, open-pore oak wood trim, DAB+ digital radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, climate control air conditioning and ambient lighting with 64 colours.
Safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, steering assist, a 360-degree camera system and nine airbags.
At launch, buyers can choose from three powertrain options beginning with a 2.0-litre 180kW/500Nm four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit that powers the GLE300d.
The GLE400 packs a new 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine with the brand’s EQ Boost 48V mild-hybrid technology, it develops 270kW and 500Nm.
The range-topping GLE400d gets a 3.0-litre inline six turbo-diesel making 243kW and 700Nm.
Each of the three models come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends torque to all four corners through the brand’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
