Mitsubishi Australia has announced updates to the Outlander PHEV for the 2019 model year, the plug-in hybrid electric SUV now starts at $45,990 plus on-road costs.

The base model LS has been paired back and rebadged as an ES which brings the Outlander PHEV naming structure into line with the new entry-variants of the ASX and Eclipse Cross, it also cuts the price by $4500.

The price reduction on the base model evaporates slightly when the optional ADAS safety pack is factored in. Buyers will need to part with an additional $1500 to add forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, automatic high beam, adaptive cruise control and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Exterior changes to for 2019 include revised front and rear bumpers, grille and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The interior gets new seats trimmed in leather and microsuede, an upgraded centre console with a soft pad leather armrest, one-touch power window operation (driver’s door), illuminated power window switches, speed limiter, rear air vents and silver pinstripe detailing on the dash and door trim.

Moving to the Exceed adds leather trim, heated seats, LED high beam lamps, LED fog lights, sunroof, powered tailgate, 360-degree surround view camera and rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a pair of 60kW electric motors have been carried over for 2019. When fully charged, the car can run in EV mode for up to 54 kilometres.
