Specifications and pricing have been confirmed for the new 2019 Renault Megane RS, the hatch will go on sale in Australia from September with a starting price of $44,990 plus on-road costs.

For the first time in the sports car segment, the Renault Megane RS will come equipped with four-wheel steering system which has been re-engineered by Renault Sport. The system works in two ways; over 60km/h the front and rear wheels turn in the same direction providing increased stability whereas at speeds less than 60km/h they turn in opposite directions for increased agility.

Two chassis options – Sport and Cup – are available. The former offers a sporty drive, as the name suggests, with the latter getting revised springs, dampers and bump stops as well as a new Torsen mechanical limited slip differential allowing for better traction and higher cornering speeds.

Braking has been improved with 15mm bigger front brake discs measuring in at 355mm. Also available as part of the Cup Chassis pack with the manual transmission are Brembo bi-material brakes which reduce weight per wheel by 1.8kgs due to the aluminium/cast iron construction.

Another world first on the Megane RS is the inclusion of shock absorbers with hydraulic bump stops as standard.

Powering the Megane RS will be a brand new 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine offering 205kW of power and 390Nm of torque, making it the most powerful 1.8-litre engine available Down Under.

A six-speed EDC automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox are available to complete the drivetrain. The EDC transmission gets Multi-Change Down and Launch Control.

A range of technology from Renault Sport also features on the new Megane RS including RS Vision (LED lighting), RS Monitor and Multi-Sense system with Comfort, Normal, Sport, Race and Perso settings.

Styling highlights include chrome-plated RS door sills, custom roof lining and sports seats with dark carbon upholstery and a Nappa leather steering wheel and gear gaiter.

Externally the Megane RS gets a custom front bumper with a gunmetal grey F1-style blade, honeycomb front grille, rear bumper with functioning diffuser and central exhaust, a rear spoiler and Chrome “Interlagos” 19-inch alloy wheels.

Other equipment highlights include front, rear and side parking sensors, rear-view camera, 8.7-inch portrait touchscreen, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.
