The updated Opel/Vauxhall Insignia has been revealed in Europe, ahead of a local arrival as the MY20 Holden Commodore.

With GM selling Opel/Vauxhall to Groupe PSA (the parent company of Peugeot and Citroen), it was thought Detroit would need to find a replacement for the ZB Commodore from its wider portfolio.

Despite plenty of conjecture regarding Commodore’s future, Holden says it’s committed to the car and is currently planning to introduce the updated version.

In the face of declining sales in a tight market, the turbulence at Holden shows no signs of easing, in fact, it’s quite the opposite with boss Dave Buttner stepping down this week.

The updated Commodore will feature a mild styling change, new lights and additional safety tech.

For 2020, the car gets a redesigned front bumper, a revised grille, new LED headlights and repositioned LED daytime running lights.

Safety gets a boost with a new rear-view camera and rear cross-traffic alert, which uses radar sensors to detect objects 90 degrees to the left or right behind the car, up to a distance of 20m away.

To date, no pictures of the interior have been released. There will be updated 7.0- and 8.0-inch infotainment displays with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a new wireless smartphone charger.
