Subaru Australia has confirmed hybrid versions of the Forester and XV will launch locally in March 2020.
Priced from $35,580 plus on-roads, the XV Hybrid e-Boxer AWD will open Subaru’s electrified range.
The larger Forester Hybrid will be offered in two trim levels: L AWD and S AWD, with prices starting from $39,990 and $45,990 plus on-road costs respectively.
From the perspective of pricing, the Subaru hybrids will compete against hybrid versions of Toyota’s C-HR and RAV4.
Both the XV and Forester use an 'e-Boxer' powertrain that comprises a 2.0-litre 110kW/196Nm petrol engine and a 12.3kW/66Nm electric motor. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a CVT automatic transmission.
The lithium-ion battery pack recharges via kinetic energy captured by regenerative braking and coasting. Depending upon vehicle and battery condition, it can operate in fully electric mode up to 40 km/h.
On top of the XV 2.0i, standard equipment on the XV Hybrid includes front LED foglights, black roof rails, power-folding wing mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shifter, premium cloth seat trim, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, an energy flow display and a pedestrian alert system.
Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite is also included which brings autonomous emergency braking (front and rear), adaptive cruise control, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, high-beam assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
When compared to the Forester 2.5i-L, the L Hybrid variant adds an energy flow display, a pedestrian alert system, premium black cloth trim, chrome coloured exterior door handles, front LED fog lights, matte silver wing mirrors and silver cladding.
The flagship Forester S Hybrid shares its equipment list with the Forester 2.5i-S variant. Features unique to the hybrid include a leather-look instrument panel, an energy flow display, a pedestrian alert system, chrome door handles, and black rear garnish.
