The updated 2021 Audi SQ5 TDI is set to arrive locally in April with a price tag starting at $104,900 plus on-road costs.

  

The updated SQ5 is powered by a revised 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine supported by mild-hybrid technology. In total, the system develops 251kW of power (a drop of 4kW) and 700Nm of torque.

 

Audi claims the 0-100km/h sprint takes 5.1 seconds and the top speed is an electronically-limited 250km/h.

 

In the quest for efficiency, changes to the engine include new forged steel pistons, a water-to-air intercooler, and a lighter turbocharger compressor wheel.

 

An eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission sends drive to the quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system.

 

In normal driving situations, the system distributes torque between the front and rear axle in a 40:60 ratio. Up to 70 per cent can flow to the front wheels and a maximum of 85 per cent to the rear wheels.

 

The standard S sport suspension with damper control lowers the body by 30mm when compared with the Q5.

 

Equipment and design highlights include 21-inch alloy wheels in 5-twin-spoke V design wrapped in 255/45 tyres, S brake calipers in a red high-gloss finish, octagonal Singleframe grille and matrix LED headlights.

 

Rear OLED lights are available on the options list. Nine exterior paint finishes are also available as well as a black styling package.

 

On the inside, the SQ5 gets electrically-adjustable sport seats with embossed S logos, leather trim, a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and the brand’s latest MIB3 infotainment platform displayed on a 10.1-inch central touchscreen with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. There is also a hands-free electric tailgate and keyless entry and start.

 

Safety features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, active lane assist, collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic assist, park assist, hill descent control and hold assist.

 

The 2021 Audi SQ5 TDI will be available in showrooms from April priced from $104,900 plus on-road costs.
