Specs and pricing have been announced for the updated 2021 Lexus IS range ahead of a showroom arrival in November.

For 2021, Lexus will continue to offer the IS with the choice of three powertrains across Luxury and F Sport trim levels.

The range opens with the IS300 which is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque. Lexus says the base engine is now certified for the Euro 6 emissions standard.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission that has been retuned for “more intuitive response and engaging performance.”

The IS300h uses a petrol-electric hybrid setup consisting of a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. In total, the system develops 164kW. A hybrid-specific e-CVT sends drive to the rear axle.

Range-topping IS350 variants feature a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 making 232kW and 380Nm. It’s also matched to an eight-speed automatic and rear wheel drive.

Dimensionally, the new IS is 30mm longer and wider, now measuring 4710mm in length and 1840mm in width. Height increases 5mm to 1435mm, while the wheelbase is unchanged at 2800mm. Lexus says the changes result in proportions that resemble a four-door coupe.

When compared to the outgoing car, the new IS gains a wider track, growing by 50mm at the rear and 45mm at the front end.

Lexus has beefed up the safety kit with intersection turning assist, emergency steering assist, automated collision notification, SOS call and stolen vehicle tracking standard on all models.

Other features that are standard on the IS for the first time include 18-inch alloy wheels (replacing 17-inch), an electric park brake (replacing foot-operated), a new 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, autonomous emergency braking with day and night pedestrian detection plus daytime cyclist detection, all-speed active cruise control, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, blind-spot monitoring, parking support brake and rear cross-traffic alert+ brake.
