At launch, Mazda will offer three grades all powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine backed by a 24V mild-hybrid technology. In total, the system produces 114kW and 200Nm.

Drive is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

According to Mazda, claimed fuel consumption on the combined cycle is rated at 6.4L/100km.

Mazda says the fully-electric version will arrive in the middle of 2021 while a range-extender model with a rotary engine is due to join the range in 2022.

Dimensionally, the MX-30 comes in at 4395mm long, 1795mm wide and 1570mm high with a 2655mm wheelbase. So it’s close to the CX-30.

The MX-30 officially goes on sale tomorrow.
