The tweaked 2022 Mazda CX-5 range is now available with prices starting from $32,190 plus on-road costs.

 

For 2022, the range has been reduced from 16 variants to 12. The entry-level Maxx grade is now exclusively offered with a 2.0-litre engine and front-wheel drive, while the diesel-powered Maxx Sport and Touring models have been cut along with the GT variant.

 

Mazda says the update includes redesigned seats to help provide greater stability, a recalibrated transmission, improvements to the dampening control structure, and increased frame rigidity. According to the brand, these revisions help suppress unpleasant vibrations, reduce road noise, and provide a higher quality of ride comfort.

 

Petrol-powered all-wheel drive models will also get Mazda intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) which allows drivers to optimise the car for the driving situation.

 

All grades feature a new signature wing and front grille design, plus restyled headlights and taillights. There’s also a new Zircon Sand Metallic body colour.

 

The new Touring Active variant is distinguished by lime green accents on the grille, seat upholstery and air-conditioning louvres.

 

The range-topping Akera loses the black plastic cladding for body-coloured cladding and gains fresh bright silver wheels.

All of the engine options are carried over from the previous year. The base car uses a 2.0-litre 115kW/200Nm naturally-aspirated petrol unit matched to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

 

The 2.5-litre 140kW/252Nm four-cylinder petrol engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission is available from the Maxx Sport up.

 

Touring Active and Akera models can be had with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 140kW and 450Nm. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.

 

The flagship 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine is available in GT SP and Akera grades, it develops 170kW and 420Nm. A six-speed automatic sends drive to all four wheels.
