BMW Australia and Westfield shopping centre owner, Scentre Group, have opened 40 charging bays across the country.

In total, 40 electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) public charging bays have been installed at 10 major metropolitan Westfield shopping centres.

Remarkably, owners of EV and PHEV models will enjoy free battery charging at the new bays.

Marc Werner, CEO of BMW Group Australia, is delighted to provide infrastructure to low-emission motorists.

“BMW remains at the forefront of providing e-mobility solutions, the revolutionary BMW i3 being just one example of this,” said Werner.

“This partnership reinforces the BMW i brand’s innovative strength and commitment to smart sustainable solutions here in Australia,” he said.

EV and PHEV owners can locate the charging stations via the ChargePoint app, online or through their BMW navigation system.

This is an excellent move with convenience and cost benefits for owners of EV and PHEV technology. The heavy lifting involved in building the infrastructure to support lower emissions motoring might not be left to Tesla after all.

The new charging stations can be found at the following centres.
