The covers have come off the Brabham BT62, a track-focused hypercar that will be manufactured in Australia.
 
The sharp-looking track warrior will be powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.4-litre V8 engine producing 522kW of power and 667Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a rear-mounted race-spec transmission.
 
A carbon fibre body means a dry weight of only 972kg (about as much as a Suzuki hatch), Brabham Automotive claims the BT62 boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 537kW per tonne.
 
The company has taken every step to optimise the body of the BT62 for performance, the car’s aerodynamic properties deliver 1200kg of downforce.
 
Michelin racing slicks will wrap the 18-inch alloy wheels while the brakes are carbon on carbon featuring six-piston calipers front and rear.
 
The BT62’s track identity sees it equipped with six-point harnesses, a very clever built-in air jack system, removable carbon-fibre steering wheel and a 125-litre fuel tank with quick-fill connections.

The team we have in place, and the vision it shares, provides a solid platform for Brabham Automotive to execute its long-term business strategy. Our first step to deliver on that strategy is the Brabham BT62, a car truly worthy of carrying the iconic Brabham name.”
 
Brabham Automotive has confirmed it will only make 70 examples to celebrate 70 years since Sir Jack Brabham launched his racing career in Australia. The first 35 cars will be liveried to pay tribute to each of Sir Jack Brabham’s 35 Formula 1 Grand Prix victories.
 
Hypercars aren’t cheap and neither is the BT62, pricing will start at £1 million ($A1.8 million). Those who stump up the cash will have access to a driver development and experience programme to allow them to extract the most out of their car.
 
The BT62 will be manufactured in Adelaide with the first deliveries to start later this year.
