BMW’s Spartanburg plant in the United States has commenced making the first pre-production BMW X7 models, initiating the countdown to the presentation of the production car at the end of 2018.

The new X7 will be produced on the same assembly line as the BMW X5 and BMW X6.

All pre-production models built at the Spartanburg plant go to development department specialists. The pre-production models then undergo homologation, registration and diverse testing. Testing may include endurance tests and test drives under extreme conditions in the desert regions of Death Valley or on the ice and snow-covered slopes of Scandinavia.

To avoid any early leaks of the pre-production models each is disguised with camouflage wrap which uses a conspicuous striped pattern to conceal the final look of the new X7 models. Camouflage tape, however, cannot hide the sheer size of the new BMW X7 though, it’s going to be big.

Full specifications and local pricing are yet to be confirmed with more details of the new BMW X7 expected to be revealed closer to the December 2018 presentation.
