Ford Australia has launched its new 2nd Car program which is designed to give eligible Ford customers the opportunity to access a second car, for a fee.

Available for a one or two week period, customers who purchase a new Ranger or Escape at a participating dealership will be able to join the 2nd Car program, as long as they are a private or blue business fleet buyer. Membership costs $500 at the time of purchasing the new vehicles.

Currently, only the Mustang is available in the 2nd Car program with members forking out an additional fee depending on whether they want the car for one or two weeks and which new car they purchased.

Ranger owners can book the Mustang for $250 for one week and $500 for two weeks whilst Escape owner will have to fork out $375 or $750 for one or two weeks respectively. The car can be booked via a website similar to booking a hotel.

Conditions do apply for driving the vehicles with the driver required to be over 25 years of age and have a full license but, as long as the conditions are met, any friends or family can have a go of the Stang.

Ford is hoping to expand the program to include the full Ford line-up and offer it in other markets.

“With 2nd Car, new Ford buyers can own one vehicle, but drive two,” said Christine Wagner, Program Manager, Ford 2nd Car.

“2nd Car not only offers new Ford buyers a great car ownership experience, it also offers access to a great sharing experience, we believe this program offers excellent value and flexibility – another reason to join the Ford family” she added.
