Land Rover’s ambitious goal to travel ‘around the world in 70 days’ to mark their 70th anniversary has reached the halfway point as they reach Singapore.

The journey so far has seen the group drive over 17,000km through Mongolia, China, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia after setting off from Moscow on June 7, 2018.

The team, which is headed by Sergey Dolya, are circumnavigating the globe in two Land Rover Discovery SUVs. Mr Dolya commented: “There’s no way we could have reached this point without the off-road capability of the Discovery, especially when we needed to cross a river.”

“We even managed to get the cars washed by a group of elephants to make sure we keep them in good condition on what is a gruelling journey!”

To complete their journey the group needs to cross two antipodes – straight lines connecting diametrically opposite points on the globe – one of which was tackled in Enshi, China. The next will be crossed in La Serena, Chile.

So far on the journey, the Discoverys have had to tackle a variety of terrains including mountain roads, desert tracks and swollen rivers with more to come as they continue through the second half of their trek.
