Ahead of the official unveiling in March, Lexus has released an image of its new compact SUV, the UX. The UX will give Lexus a model to compete against the Jaguar E-PACE, Volvo XC40 and a plethora of German options such as the BMW X1 and X2.

Showing off the bold design the UX demonstrates powerful bodywork with muscular rear shoulders and wheel arches contrasting with a compact cabin profile and high beltline. There’s also the now familiar Lexus spindle grille.

What is not seen under the metal is the brand new platform claimed to provide the UX with body rigidity and a low centre of gravity to provide excellent handling. Common sense would lead us to think the UX will be built on the Toyota New Global Architecture that underpins the C-HR.

Inside the cabin, Lexus tells us to expect a “highly focused driver's cockpit” angled towards the driver with roomy space for the passengers whilst drawing on the popular SUV aspect of a commanding view of the road.

More details will be released on March 6 at the Geneva International Motor Show.
