Mazda has announced the electrification and connectivity direction of the company which is set to build on the ‘human-centred’ philosophy.

In terms of electrification, the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emission whilst maintaining the joy of driving is the key goal for Mazda. Electric vehicles are set to be introduced to regions where clean energy sources or restrictions of certain vehicle types are in place.

By 2030 Mazda is aiming to offer some form of electrification in all production vehicles with 95 per cent of vehicles using hybrid technology.

Mazda is currently developing two battery electric vehicles with one being powered by just the battery and the other incorporating a newly developed range extender which is powered by a rotary engine. Mazda hasn’t sold a rotary-powered car since the demise of the RX-8 in 2012.

To kick the EV development process along, Mazda has formed a partnership with Toyota and Denso.

The brand is also looking to achieve a 90 per cent reduction of its "well-to-wheel" carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 based on 2010 levels.
