Porsche has announced the production name for the Mission E concept will be the Taycan.

The Stuttgart brand says the name Taycan means “lively young horse” referencing the leaping steed found in the Porsche crest since 1952.

The Taycan will use two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) to produce 440kW of power. Porsche is claiming the 0 to 100km/h sprint can be achieved in “well under 3.5 seconds” while reaching 200km/h in under twelve seconds.

Performance is one thing, but what about range? Under NEDC testing, the Taycan’s maximum range is said to be over 500 kilometres.

Porsche is stepping up its plans to electrify its cars, earlier this year the brand announced a $9.4 billion investment in electromobility leading into 2022 with a focus on both plug-in hybrids and purely electric vehicles.

Cashed up locals can get excited, Porsche Australia has confirmed the Taycan will reach local showrooms in 2020.
