Here’s one for the purists - Porsche Classic has built a 911 Turbo with an air-cooled engine, 20 years after the end of the car’s production run.

Titled 'Project Gold' the build team was able to source over 6500 genuine parts from the Porsche Classic to make the car a reality.

Enthusiasts looking to take ownership of older 911 models should note Porsche Classic manages an inventory of over 52,000 genuine parts.

The 911 Turbo version of the 993 is anchored in Porsche history as the first 911 to have a twin-turbo engine. It was a big deal back in 1995. The engine in question is rated to deliver 450 horsepower (335kw).

Along with the engine, a genuine 993 bodyshell, manual transmission and all-wheel drive system were located in the Porsche Classic warehouse.

The car has been finished in Golden Yellow Metallic with black alloy wheels to reference the 2018 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series. The exterior colour scheme is mirrored inside the car with the seats trimmed in black leather with golden yellow highlights.

Porsche Classic will display the 911 at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion in Laguna Seca on September 27.

RM Sotheby’s will auction the car at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta on October 27. The proceeds will be donated to the Ferry Porsche Foundation.
