After 2017 saw Jaguar’s new F-PACE take out the double title of World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year, sister brand Range Rover has seen their newest edition, the Velar, continue the success as it claims the World Car Design of the Year at the 2018 World Car Awards.

It’s not hard to see why the fancy SUV which brings glamour, modernity and a range as long as your arm might be in the running let alone win.

Prof. Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said: "The Range Rover Velar is an outstanding, superior SUV. Compelling modernity, eye-catching design, innovative Touch Pro Duo infotainment technology and a clear focus on sustainability – what a combination. This product speaks for itself.”

Not only does the Velar join the F-PACE in the winner’s circle, the F-TYPE and Evoque have also graced the podium at the World Car Design of the Year awards.

Features of the Velar which helped it on its way to the title win include the optimised proportions and stunning silhouette which showed off distinctive design elements such as super-slim Matrix Laser-LED headlights, deployable door handles with a James Bond high-tech vibe and the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system which was a particular highlight during Car Conversation’s week testing the Velar.

There was stiff competition for the award this year with the Velar beating out the new Volvo XC60 and Lexus LC500 to take the title which was decided by the World Car Awards jury consisting of 82 motoring journalists from 24 countries.

Having only been released in late 2017, the Velar filled the gap between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. It is available with six different powertrains from the 132kW 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine to the most powerful 280kW supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine.

The Velar was designed, engineered and manufactured exclusively in the UK with the intention of delivering practicality, connectivity and capability as the luxury SUV goes ‘Above & Beyond’.

In total there are 42 model variants to choose from which range in price starting at $70,662 plus on-road costs to a hefty $168,862 plus on-road costs in Australia.

And with the recent release of the new Jaguar E-PACE could it be back-to-back-to-back wins for Jaguar Land Rover in 2019?
