SsangYong Australia has announced initial specifications for the Tivoli small SUV which is scheduled to launch locally in November.

The Tivoli will be offered with a choice of petrol or diesel engines matched to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission in two- and all-wheel drive.

Entry-level models will be powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 94kW and 160Nm. Power goes to the front wheels through a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Diesel buyers get a 1.6-litre turbo unit capable of 84kW and 300Nm. The oiler can only be purchased with an automatic transmission but does get the choice of front or all-wheel drive depending on the trim level.

SsangYong is going to have a crack at the fashionistas by offering eight exterior colours and a two-tone palette.

It’s the same on the inside, the instrument cluster illumination can be personalised to any of the six subtle background colours: red, blue, sky-blue, yellow, white and black.

The cabin also gets semi-bucket style seats with two levels of firmness and a D-shaped sports steering wheel wrapped in premium leather.

Along with the personalisation aspects of the Tivoli, packaging might be a key element to attract buyers away from the establishment. SsangYong is talking up the amount of space throughout the interior, especially “the above-average back seat space” assisted by a near-flat rear floor.

The boot has a 423-litre capacity which the brand says can swallow three full-size golf club bags. The second-row seats can be folded flat for those occasions that require more cargo carrying ability.

Higher-spec versions of Tivoli will get autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and high beam assist.
