Australia’s best selling vehicle, the Toyota HiLux, will have an expanded range in 2018 with three new variants, the Rogue, Rugged and Rugged X.

These three new models will sit at the top of the HiLux range above the popular SR5. Toyota claims to have added features that boost off-road protection, recovery and functionality.

The new flagship, the HiLux Rugged X, is ‘primed for adventure’ with a high-tensile alloy bash plate, a winch-compatible hoopless steel bull bar, snorkel, LED driving lights, high-strength front and rear recovery points, rock rails, and a load-carrying sports bar.

The front sees a new front end design that features a new black grille with an interlocking honeycomb design and gloss-black surround.

Next up is the HiLux Rugged which maintains the off-road look with the same new front end and a premium steel bull bar but loses the hardcore off-road gear.

Finally, the HiLux Rogue goes for a premium feel with a hexagonal upper grille, fresh front bumper and heavily revised fog lamps.

Pricing is yet to be released, however, the trio is to sit above the SR5 which has a starting price of $54,440 before on-road costs.

Toyota Australia's vice president sales and marketing Sean Hanley said "HiLux buyers increasingly demand additional features - in fact, they spend more on accessories than any other vehicle in our range," Mr Hanley said.

"These new vehicles will enable them to make a statement with advanced toughness, added capability, practical comfort, first-class safety and the in-built strength that makes HiLux the indisputable No. 1," he said.

"HiLux Rugged X is a no-compromise vehicle for those seeking adventure with a robust and capable vehicle that makes the ultimate statement: work hard, play harder.

"HiLux Rogue is for people who want refinement and capability, enabling them to go for weekend adventures and do it in style.

"HiLux Rugged is about toughness and off-road performance - an ideal vehicle for getting off the beaten track," he added.

The HiLux Rugged X, Rugged and Rogue are due in the second quarter of this year, full specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the release date.
