Toyota Motor Corporation has announced today that they plan to develop higher-performance versions of its core models using hybrid technology.

This announcement coincided with the world premiere of the C-HR Hy-Power Concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The C-HR Hy-Power Concept highlights the performance-focused take on the hybrid powertrain in conjunction with new colour, texture and trim ideas.

Offering more power and performance than the 90kW combined system output featured in the Prius and European C-HR, the new concept has been designed to use a new hybrid powertrain which will also be reflected in the styling.

A new Dark Carbon silver paint which has a matt finish has been used to amplify the sharp styled lines and sculptural surfaces of the car. Gloss black highlights for the lower front lip spoiler, area above the Toyota emblem and wheel arch trims add a nice point of emphasis.

Dark chrome headlamp ornamentation, window frames and 20-inch alloy wheels add to this effect.

In contrast, anodised Burning Orange front pillars, door mirror housing, accent bar in the headlamps and highlight in the lower grille add a pop of colour against the dark exterior paint.

Another feature which instils some character is the unique "diamond-cut" film over the entire roof which changes from black from the back to the anodised orange at the front and mixes matt and gloss planes.

The colour highlights are carried into the cabin as black leather seats with orange headrests and bolsters are complemented by Burning orange coloured yarn which creates an asymmetrical quilting pattern of multiple diamond shapes across the seatbacks and cushions.

Orange armrests and inner door panels replicate the contrasting design as does the orange finish for the highlight trim around the instrument panel and multimedia touchscreen.

It should be said, Toyota hasn't confirmed if the C-HR Hy-Power will go into production. The Japanese brand has said more details regarding the future development of the higher performance hybrid options would be revealed early next year.

Current hybrid models available in Australia include the Camry, Corolla and the Prius with the Camry being the best selling hybrid vehicle.
