Details of the new Volkswagen Tiguan 132TSI R-Line Edition have been revealed with 1000 units available locally priced from $46,990 plus on-road costs.
 
Based on the five-seat Comfortline, the R-Line Edition adds two-tone 'Race' cloth upholstery, 19-inch Sebring alloy wheels, the new 10.2-inch Active Info Display (fancy terminology for the digital instrument cluster) and tinted windows as standard.
 
Another standard addition is the driver assistance package, which consists of adaptive cruise control, side assist, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic jam assist and emergency assist.
 
Options are limited to an electric glass sunroof ($2000) and metallic paint ($700).
 
The Tiguan 132TSI R-Line Edition is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing 132kW and 320Nm mated with a seven-speed DSG that sends power to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
 
Equipment carried over from the Comfortline includes LED headlights, keyless access and start, electric folding exterior mirrors, front fog lights, autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian monitoring, lane assist, park assist, a rear-view camera, front and rear sensors with manoeuvre braking, three-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers and an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
