Australian specifications and pricing have been revealed for the 2018 LDV D90, the full-sized Chinese SUV opens with a starting price of $36,990 drive-away.

As a genuine seven-seater, the LDV D90 will be competing against the Haval H9, Mazda CX-9, Toyota Kluger and Kia Sorento.

The D90 will be offered in three trim levels; Mode, Deluxe and Luxe with front and all-wheel drive options. All variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine capable of 165kW of power and 350Nm of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range.

Aided by an automatic stop/start system, combined fuel consumption comes in at 10.2L/100km for the 2WD and 10.9L/100km for the 4WD variant.

Four-wheel drive models will have some off-road capability with high and low range gearing, a terrain selection system and an electronic rear differential lock.

The D90 will cast a large shadow, it’s 5005mm long, 1932mm long, 1875mm high with a 2950mm wheelbase. Ground clearance comes in at 210mm. The braked towing capacity is rated at 2000kg.

LDV is following the path set by Haval by moving the focus away from price and onto quality and high equipment levels.

The entry-level Mode variant is front-wheel drive only but does come generously appointed. Standard equipment includes automatic LED headlights with LED daytime-running lights, rain sensing wipers, a 12-inch infotainment screen, 8.0-inch multifunction instrument display for the driver and parking sensors at both ends.

Even the base trim level gets blind spot warning, lane wander alert, autonomous emergency braking with front collision warning, adaptive cruise control and six airbags.

There’s also road sign recognition across the range which is capable of ‘reading’ road signs, such as speed limits, and displaying them in the instrument panel whilst displaying a warning if the vehicle is in excess of the limit. As the system spots the actual road sign it is not relying on stored maps which may be out of date.

Moving to the Deluxe gains a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, luggage rack, leather steering wheel, hands-free tailgate, eight-way adjustable driver's seat, lumbar support, leather upholstery for the first and second rows of seats and an eight-speaker audio system. There’s also the option of front or all-wheel drive.

The top-spec Luxe adds a 360-degree exterior camera, panoramic sunroof, auto dimming mirror, seat heating with ventilation and massage function, seat memory, a 12 speaker power audio system, puddle lights and a 220 volt/150W power socket.
