Further details have been released about the new 2019 Toyota Corolla hatch outlining the car’s new safety technology.

All three Corolla hatch trim levels – Ascent Sport, SX and ZR – will get active cruise control, a pre-collision safety system as well as the obligatory seven airbags and reversing camera as standard.

The active cruise control will operate with the assistance of cameras and sensors to maintain a constant distance from the car it is following. It will be active at speeds between 30km/h and 180km/h.

All new Corolla hatch models will also be fitted with autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Advanced lane departure warning is also on the list of safety kit as well as sway warning.

Additional safety technology included as standard comes in the form of automatic high beam, road sign assist and blind spot monitoring in the SX and ZR. On top of this, the range-topping ZR will also get a head-up display.

Toyota Australia vice-president sales and marketing Sean Hanley said: "The all-new Corolla hatch is set to make its mark as one of the safest small cars in its class with many of its standard advanced safety technologies usually only found on luxury or higher grade vehicles.”

The 2019 Toyota Corolla hatch goes on sale in August.
