Australian customers now have the opportunity to purchase Audi’s second-generation R8 Spyder. The all-new performance vehicle offers an impressive 397kW of power and 540Nm of torque from the naturally aspirated V10 engine and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds. A top speed of 318 km/h is achievable.

Supporting the V10 is a seven-speed S tronic transmission, a dual-clutch number.

According to Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH, the new R8 Spyder is faster, lighter and more dynamic than its predecessor.

With mid-engine dual injection system, the Audi R8 Spyder allows a dynamic throttle response from the 5.2-litre engine. The feedback is a mighty roar which is enlarged via the sports exhaust system, with gloss black tailpipe trims, steaming from the rear.

Four driving modes, ranging from comfort to dynamic are available for selection via the intelligent control system.

The cockpit orientation of the cabin should provide for a safer driving experience as important buttons are within reach, meaning the driver need not remove their eyes from the road. With a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit display to boot, there is even a special performance view incorporated displaying driving dynamics information. The driver will also be able to display selected content in the virtual cockpit thanks to the new Audi smartphone interface technology.

MMI navigation plus with MMI touch, as standard, is employed for increased usability of natural-language control. Seatbelt microphones are also standard and a handy feature.

Direction can be heard clearly through the Bang & Olufsen Sound System which incorporates two head restraint loudspeakers into each seat, allowing for an uninterrupted audio experience even when the hood is open.

Speaking of the hood, a lightweight cloth hood which tapers into two fins and stretches the cloth to conform to the design of the car keeps the passengers dry when it’s wet or cold. When not needed though in 20 seconds the electro-hydraulic drive opens the hood, even up to 50km/h speed. The rear window is also retractable.

Other comfort features include electronically adjustable sports seats, with lateral support, for the driver and passenger.

There is also a range of options to personalise the new Audi R8 Spyder, such as body components including a front spoiler, rear diffuser and new sideblades, available in carbon, and LED headlights with newly developed laser technology maximise visibility and range.
