Volkswagen Australia has announced the Golf GTI Original and Golf R Grid Edition performance cars will be available for Australian buyers to purchase.

The Golf R Grid Edition, which will be available in Golf R or Golf R Wagon configurations, will be on offer before the end of the year, closely followed by the Golf GTI Original, available in a retro-inspired 3-door design, in the first part of 2018.

The Golf R Grid Edition will boast a 213kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo four engine as seen in the current R model’s engine bay which is mated with a six-speed manual or seven-speed wet clutch DSG transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive.

The Golf GTI Original will share the 169kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo four engine from its 7.5 range counterparts. This will also be mated with either a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG transmission.

Hopefully, these latest special models will round out the already crowded Golf line-up.

The GTI Original is expected to come in price wise at under $40,000 whilst the Grid Edition expected at under $50,000. Full pricing and specifications will be released in the not-too-distant-future.

Let’s start a Car Conversation, will the new special models of the Golf be the last to join the line-up, or will Volkswagen continue to expand the Golf 7.5 range?
