Australian specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63, the off-road wagon is due to arrive in August with a starting price of $247,700 plus on-road costs.
The AMG powered G-Wagon will be packing a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that develops 420kW and 850Nm. Outputs are up 10kW and 90Nm respectively when compared to the 5.5-litre V8 in the outgoing model.
A 9-Speed automatic transmission sends power to a permanent all-wheel-drive system, including a low-range ratio with shift-on-the-move. The G63 will officially accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The 2018 model year sees the intergration of a new front grill, Multibeam LED headlights and 21-inch AMG alloy wheels.
One the inside, the G-Class gets two 12.3-inch widescreen displays from the S-Class, a 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, electronically adjustable front seats with memory function, heated seats (front and outer rear), three-zone climate control, Nappa leather upholstery, leather-finished dashboard with open-pore ash wood trim, and Dinamica microfibre roof liner.
Other highlights include an AMG adaptive dampers, AMG performance steering wheel, ambient lighting with 64 colour options, a selectable AMG sports exhaust system, sunroof and an AMG-specific IWC designed analogue clock – classy!
Also standard is the Parking Package with Active Parking Assist and 360-degree camera.
Autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring and traffic sign assist make up a comprehensive safety package.
Buyers can option a Night Package ($5900) that adds tinted indicator lenses, black exterior door mirror housings, black bumper, black bash plate, a black housing for the spare wheel and 22-inch black alloy wheels.
There’s also an Edition 1 option ($19,500) that includes the Night Package but adds side decals and red trim on the door mirrors.
Selecting the Edition 1 also brings the Exclusive Interior Plus package that includes black Nappa leather seats with diamond stitching, multi-contour adjustment for the front seats with massage and and climatisation, air vents finished in silver shadow and metal AMG badges embedded in the front seat back-rests.
