Australian specifications and pricing have been announced for the 2018 MG ZS, the compact SUV will start at $20,990 plus on-road costs.

The Chinese owned MG will send the ZS into the very competitive compact SUV segment where it will face stiff competition from the Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and the Haval H2.

The ZS will be available in two trim levels; Soul and Essence.

The Soul variant is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol naturally aspirated 84kW/150Nm engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment in the ZS Soul includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, rearview camera, parking sensors, 60/40 split fold rear seats with fold-flat function and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The top spec ZS Essence gets its power from a 1.0-litre turbo 82kW/160Nm engine that is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Addition equipment found in the Essence includes a panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade and keyless start.

MG points out the cabin of the ZS will have the space to compete with the best in the segment. A flat rear floor will make things more comfortable with five onboard, while cargo space comes in at a healthy 385-litres. With the rear seats folded flat this increases to 1166-litres.

MG Motor will be supporting the ZS with a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty and 7-year roadside assistance. This matches Kia’s standard coverage and the current warranty promotions from Holden and Honda. There is a caveat, at this stage, MG hasn't committed to any capped price servicing program for the ZS.
