Ford Australia has announced specs and pricing for the 2020 Focus ST hatch ahead of a local arrival early next year.

Prices start at $44,690 plus on-road costs for the manual and $44,690 plus on-roads for the automatic version.

All Australian bound examples will be powered by a 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine producing 206kW of power and 420Nm of torque. It will be matched with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic.

Ford is quick to point out the benefits of the new-generation EcoBoost technology, the brand claims “engine response is enhanced using a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, which scavenges exhaust gas energy more effectively using separated channels to minimise interference between gas pulses. An electronically actuated waste-gate allows closer control of boost pressures for optimised performance.”

In a first for a Ford front-wheel vehicle, an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) has been incorporated into the transmission to provide improved cornering and stability.

In terms of design, the Focus ST will feature a honeycomb front grille, LED headlight and taillights featuring LED Daytime Running Lights, unique front and rear bumpers incorporating LED fog lamps, sculpted side-skirts and an integrated spoiler. Unique ST badging on the front grille and rear hatch are also included.

The appearance will be bolstered by 19-inch machined alloy wheels wearing 235/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres as standard.

A range of colour options will also be available including exclusive Ford Performance Blue and Orange Fury, alongside Frozen White, Magnetic (grey), Race Red, Ruby Red and Shadow Black.

Internally the Focus ST will feature heated Recaro sports seats trimmed in suede and leather, lumbar support for the driver, aluminium pedals, chrome gear-lever for the six-speed manual or new-generation e-shifter for the auto, a flat-bottom heated ST steering wheel wrapped in perforated leather, and an array of ST badging.

There’s also an 8.0-inch touchscreen running Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and push-button engine start, ambient LED lighting and dual-zone climate control.

Like the wider Focus range, the ST gets a long list of standard safety kit including autonomous emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera and automatic high-beam.

Ford has confirmed the 2020 Focus ST will be available in Australian showrooms during the first quarter of 2020.
