Specs and pricing have been confirmed for the updated 2022 Subaru Forester range ahead of a showroom arrival in October 2021.

Pricing now starts at $35,990 plus on-road costs for the base 2.5i and tops out at $47,190 plus on-roads for the Hybrid S.

Externally, the updated Forester gets a revised front bumper and grille, as well as new headlights and fog lights.

The 2.5i Sport, 2.5i-S and both hybrid variants go further with a tweaked rear bumper. The Sport also gets new circular LED fog lights and geometric black door mirrors.

At the business end of the range, the 2.5i-S and Hybrid S gain new alloy wheel designs, while all bar the entry grade feature an updated version of Subaru’s Adaptive Driving Beam.

Subaru has also added lane-centring, lane-departure prevention and autonomous emergency steering to the Forester’s EyeSight suite of active safety technology.

Variants equipped with the driver monitoring system now feature gesture control for the climate control.

The 6.5-inch touchscreen in the entry models has been replaced with a larger 8.0-inch unit. 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Sport and 2.5i-S grades also get an updated instrument panel.

Underneath, the front coil springs and dampers have been retuned for better handling and ride comfort, while a new aluminium engine mount bracket is said to reduce noise and vibration.

Subaru has also revised the Forester’s X-Mode which will now automatically re-engage once the vehicle speed drops to 35km/h or less, while the updated Hill Descent Control improves vehicle control speed.

Power continues to come from a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 136kW of power and 239Nm of torque. It’s matched to a CVT automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Hybrid models combine a 100kW/196Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 12kW/66Nm electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. It’s also paired with a CVT and all-wheel drive.

The updated Forester range is available to order now with deliveries set to commence in October.
