BMW has whetted the appetite of wealthy greenies by teasing with new i8 Roadster. The i8 Roadster will be the third addition to the BMW i family as the demand for more sustainable transport technology increases.

Due in 2018, the BMW i8 Roadster will be the first of its kind to join the line-up offering open-top driving with low emissions. Early figures indicate that the fuel consumption of the i8 Roadster could be as low as 2.0 l/100km with CO2 emissions around the 45 g/km though official figures will be confirmed closer to the date of release.

No specifications have been released around engines and performance though it is expected the i8 Roadster will feature the same 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine accompanying the electric motor as found in the i8 coupe.

In terms of looks, the camouflage paint disguises specifics but the overall silhouette is similar to that of the current coupe. It also appears to feature the same scissor doors found on the coupe version.

With BMW continuing to expand their range, perhaps they could offer something heading towards sustainability that’s appropriately priced for their masstige audience.

Let’s start a Car Conversation, will the BMW i8 Roadster be taken seriously by enthusiasts, or will it be the car to own for the cashed up inner city trendy?
