Kia Australia has confirmed the Stonic compact SUV will be available locally during the fourth quarter of 2020.

Based on the Rio hatch, the Stonic will slot underneath the new Seltos in Kia’s SUV line-up. It will be competing against cars like the Mazda CX-3 and Hyundai Venue.

The Stonic badge has been used in Europe since 2017, where it’s available with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.

2020 is shaping up as a big year for Kia’s SUV range, along with the arrival of the Stonic, the brand is expected to launch a new Sorento and the electric Niro. A new generation of the Sportage is also close.

Expanding it’s SUV line-up should keep the Korean marque growing, in 2019 it was the only top ten brand to finish in the black.

The new Stonic is expected to reach showrooms in the fourth quarter of this year, specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
