Specs and pricing have been confirmed for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class range which includes a new diesel option.

The G400d will slot underneath the AMG G63 and derive power from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine developing 243kW of power and 700Nm of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes claims the G400d can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 6.4 seconds.

The G-Class uses a body-on-frame set-up with three differential locks and low range gearing for those wanting to head off-road.

Equipment highlights include adaptive suspension, LED headlights, a sliding glass sunroof, metallic paint, 19-inch alloy wheels, tyre pressure monitoring, privacy glass, and a Stainless Steel Package that features a protective strip with black striped trim inset, side running boards and a spare wheel cover.

On the inside, there’s a 15-speaker Burmester surround-sound system, electronically adjustable and heated leather front seats, three-zone climate control, an Off-Road Information Centre including altitude, compass, body angle, wheel angle and inclination, a 360-degree camera, and the two 12.3-inch digital screens with satellite navigation with 3D map and dynamic route guidance, DAB+ digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitoring, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control are also included as standard.

Moving to the flagship AMG G63 adds Nappa leather trim on the seats and door panels, a leather-trimmed dashboard, a Dinamica microfibre roof liner, a Nappa leather-lined AMG steering wheel, heated outer rear seats, and a digital TV tuner.

The G63 also gets an AMG body kit including flared wheel arches, a unique front apron, 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, AMG red brake calipers, a performance exhaust, AMG Dynamic Select and AMG Ride Control.

Power comes from 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine producing 430kW and 850Nm. It’s matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The AMG G63 is available now while the G400d will arrive locally in July.
