Mercedes-Benz has announced specs and pricing for the updated GLE Coupe range ahead of a local arrival in September.

At launch, Mercedes will offer the GLE450 4Matic along with the AMG GLE53 and 63 S 4Matic+ performance models.

Dimensionally, the GLE Coupe is 39mm longer and 7mm wider than its predecessor, with 20mm added to the wheelbase. Along with additional cabin space, the larger body unlocks 40 litres of extra cargo space.

Priced from $137,000 plus on-roads the GLE450 is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder producing 270kW and 500Nm. It’s supplemented by the brand’s 48V EQ Boost technology that can add a further 16kW/250Nm under load. A nine-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels.

Mercedes-Benz claims the GLE450 takes 5.7 seconds to reach 100 km/h from rest, while consumption on the combined cycle is 9.L/100km.

Equipment highlights include keyless entry and start, a powered tailgate, LED headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, an 85-litre fuel tank, AMG Line body styling and 21-inch AMG alloy wheels.

On the inside, buyers get the MBUX infotainment system featuring side-by-side 12.3-inch screens with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A 360-degree camera, a Burmester surround sound system, Nappa leather upholstery, heated front seats with memory, a panoramic sliding glass sunroof, ambient lighting with 64 colours, and wireless phone charging are also standard.

The safety kit features nine airbags, Active Steering Assist, Distronic cruise control with Active Distance Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic warning function, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Traffic Sign Assist.

Moving to the AMG GLE53 4Matic+ (from $171,800 plus on-roads) sees the power provided by a 48V EQ-boosted 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder unit developing 320kW and 520Nm. An AMG calibrated nine-speed automatic sends power to the variable 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

From a standstill, it can hit 100km/h in 5.3 seconds while fuel economy is 9.3L/100km on the combined cycle.

Additional equipment includes Airmatic air suspension, adaptive damping, a two-pipe selectable AMG Performance exhaust system, an AMG spoiler lip, the AMG Night Package, privacy glass, an AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather, AMG door sill panels with illuminated AMG lettering, climatised front seats, the Exclusive Trim package, an AMG-specific grille and 21-inch AMG alloy wheels.

The GLE53 also gets AMG Ride Control+ with AMG Active Ride Control. This incorporates 48V active roll-stabiliser bars and, in cooperation with the Airmatic suspension, offers continuously variable adjustable damping for improved dynamics and comfort.

The flagship AMG GLE63 S 4Matic+ Coupe (from $222,700 plus on-roads) gets the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine packing 450kW and 850Nm with 48V EQ Boost. It also uses the AMG calibrated nine-speed automatic to send power to the variable 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

Acceleration from zero to 100km/h takes just 3.8 seconds while the fuel economy on the combined cycle jumps to 12.6L/100km.

An AMG electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential, an AMG high-performance composite braking system, the AMG Track Pace app and the Driving Assistance Package Plus are all included on the range-topper.
