With lots of anticipation and expectation surrounding the 2017 Honda Civic Type R, devotees champing at the bit for the all-new prospect can now order one ahead of the official October 1 on-sale date.

The arrival of some of the first 2017 Civic Type R examples, which were intended for dealer and validation testing, created a buzz according to Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins, “Our dealers have been telling us that customers are eager to put their names against a car so we’ve opened the order books early to allow them to secure their orders.”

Australian buyers will only be able to get the Civic Type R in one engine specification, though this doesn’t seem to deter the keenest of enthusiasts. The engine will be a 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine mated to a new close-ratio six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching capability. An engine that has seen the Civic Type R set a record for front-wheel-drive cars of 7 mins 43.80 seconds at the Nurburgring.

As a point of difference, the Civic Type R will feature track-tested aero kit with front and side splitters, a rear diffuser, vortex generators at the trailing edge of the roof line, a rear wing spoiler and centre-exit triple exhaust system for a refined sporty look.

The 2017 Civic Type R will also feature model-exclusive spring, damper and bushing settings, a new Dual-Axis front suspension set-up, new multi-link rear suspension, new four-wheel Adaptive Suspension System with three-chamber dampers, a re-tuned and adaptive dual-pinion electric power steering system with variable gear ratio and a helical limited-slip front differential.

Big 20-inch alloy wheels with high-performance tyres will provide the grip for fast cornering.

Three driving modes Comfort, Sport and +R, ensure the Honda Civic Type R is equipped for all driving conditions whether on the street or racing on the track. The three modes adjust steering and throttle response, transmission rev-matching, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and the Adaptive Damper System to attain the desired ride.

Internally the Civic Type R would not be complete without heavily bolstered sports seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift boot, aluminium shift knob, aluminium sports pedals, red Type R driver’s gauges and a Type R serial plate number.

This is just the beginning however and more model details and pricing will be released closer to the launch date.
