Continuing on from recent updates to the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6, the new Mazda 2 has received its makeover.

Safety has been a key focus for the new 2017 Mazda 2 with many safety features now standard across the range such as Smart City Brake Support - Forward (SCBS-F).

Smart City Brake Support - Reverse (SCBS-R) is now standard from the Maxx variant up with Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) now available on all Mazda 2 models but only fitted as standard on the Genki and GT grades.

Safety is not the only improvement as attention has been given to improving the ride and handling through updates to suspension bushings, front and rear dampers and a recalibration of the electric power steering. A new noise-insulating windscreen and new engine compartment insulation have also been included to reduce cabin noise.

Interior improvements include an updated steering wheel, clearer instruments, digital radio is available from the Maxx grade up, and colour Active Driving Display in the Genki and GT. Add to this an updated trim package to every model, with Neo, Maxx and Genki all featuring their own individual black cloth designs.

The GT hatch also comes in pure white leather with the GT sedan having black leather seats with a synthetic suede insert. This is coupled with deep brown accents on the seat, dashboard and door trims.

On the exterior noticeable differences include integrated indicators on the electric folding side mirrors, shark fin antenna on hatch models in Genki and GT grades, bright-plated fog light bezels and a gunmetal coloured grille. There is also 16-inch alloy wheels differentiated by colour on the top specs.

The new Mazda 2 will stand out with new colours available which comprise of all-new Deep Crimson Mica, Eternal Blue Mica, Meteor Grey Mica and Jet Black Mica. Dynamic Blue Mica, Snowflake White Pearl Mica and Aluminium Metallic will also still be available or for an additional $300, Soul Red Metallic.

A 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-G petrol engine, with a high-spec alternative for Maxx, Genki and GT models, is powering the new Mazda2. A 6-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual or 6-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission is matched with the engine which assists with reducing fuel consumption to 4.9 litres per hundred kilometres.

Pleasingly, there has been no increase in prices across the range.

All these upgrades are available on the new Mazda 2 now.
